Parkinson’s Drumming Group celebrates Brookfields School’s 50th Anniversary

The Reading Branch of Parkinson’s UK was delighted to take part in the recent celebration to mark the 50th Anniversary of Brookfields School on Saturday 14th September 2024. The Branch runs fortnightly group drumming sessions for its members at our Reading Music Centre, playing a mixture of Latin American rhythms such as the Samba. The drumming is very helpful for Parkinson’s symptoms and also provides great fun. The group is regularly joined by Lily, a SEN pupil from Brookfields School who is a talented musician, and who showed off her skills to good affect during the 50th Celebration event.

The Branch provides support and assistance to anyone who is affected by Parkinson’s disease in some way, organising a variety of activities and exercise groups that include physiotherapy, boxing and ballroom dancing. More information can be found on the Branch website at parkinsonsreading.org.uk.

Parkinson’s Disease is a degenerative neurological condition that stops the brain communicating properly with other parts of the body. There is no cure and it worsens over time. Parkinson’s UK is the national charity for everyone affected by Parkinson’s, and is the largest European charitable funder of research into the disease.
